ABOUT

Our Vision

Our vision is to elevate and celebrate regional arts and artists by offering high-quality art in an atmosphere and presentation found in leading art institutes and theatres. The goal is to develop a center for the Arts in Galena, which ultimately will include educational space, a performance venue and art exhibition space.

History

The Galena Center for the Arts is a 501 (c) (3) Illinois not for profit organization, founded in June 2013 as one of the community development initiatives in Galena’s Vision 2020 Study. By highlighting regional artists, alongside innovative and diverse programming, we strive to make the Arts accessible to our rural area as well as showcase our best regional talent in a professional arts setting for our considerable tourist population.

We have offered a wide variety of performance and visual arts events, and since 2014 have exhibited the work of over 70 artists in our Regional Artists Gallery. We have two rooms dedicated to revolving exhibitions of Alfie Mueller Historic photos. We mounted seventeen major exhibits, most running for two months, ranging in subject matter from historic photography to ceramics, pottery, woodcarving, textiles, sculpture, paintings and drawings. We also offer an Arts resource lending library, a young people’s artspace, a gallery gift shop and rental art studios.

Our lower level performance space offers various forms of live entertainment, including classical Sunday Salons, Songwriters Showcases and Radio plays.
